the dog days are over

tomorrow my commuter bike gets its wheels on the road after almost exactly three months of waiting patiently down by the furnace in what the residents of this house call "the way down there". the journey begins with a pedal stroke around seven thirty tomorrow and hopefully carries through seventy round trips to and from school, two duathlons, a ride around lake ontario,
and unknown rides
yet to be planned and ridden with the boys and girls of peterborough.

i'm so excited i doubt i'll sleep tonight!!!

this very cool video carries all the energy i share with my biking community.

the cyclist

the cyclist mario sironi 1914

i thought i'd let you know that i'll be off the trainer for about nine days while i absorb as much sun and sleep and food and drink and read as many books and magazines and visit as many historical sights and see as many bloming flowers and as much green grass and broad-leafed tropical plants and whatever else i can take in down in cuba.
i'm hoping and wishing that when i get back, the streets will be dry and clear and i can start to commute back and forth alongside the very much younger guys i 've seen starting out on that very same journey in the last few days.

on the trainer

it's late winter and not quite spring. the most tormenting time for a cyclist (at least where i live) because you really can't do any decent cycling on a daily basis.
some days the roads are dry and other days they're covered in snow, or ice.
so for now i put on my ipod and stare at the wall and push the pedals imagining all the time.

good news for me is that registration for the ride for africycle has kicked off and i've registered to ride around lake ontario again this summer! actually i'm training for three events - a couple of duathlons and of course the africycle ride.
i'll put up more about the africycle ride as i learn more.
for now, here are some pics of me dialing up the sweat quotient.

my bike is so much more patient than i am.
imagine sitting still in a basement all day, knowing what lies in front of you!

head down as i drop the gears.

heads up for a good tune.
today i was listening to brian eno and john cale's disc - "wrong way up".
